Cancer cure still eludes homeopathy

Posted in Skepdude by Skepdude on May 31, 2009

Simple truth continues to elude homeopathy enthusiasts

So let us do a quick recap: We still have no cure for cancer. Period! There are some treatments that help, but there is no cure. And neither does homeopathy. Let me say this loud and clear: Homeopathy does not have the cure for cancer, regardless what this PhD hopeful says.

Dr Syed Mahboob Alam, a doctor working towards his doctoral degree under the supervision of former Chairman of the University of Karachi (KU) Pharmacognosy Department Dr Mansoor Ahmed, has discovered that various types of cancer could be treated by administering herbal medicines to the patients in the homeopathic system. It was usually perceived before this research that there was no cure for cancer in allopathic or homeopathic system of medicine.

Ok so we have a doctor working towards his doctoral degree (whatever the hell that means!) who thinks he’s figured out the homeopathy can cure some types of cancer. I want more details of course, this could possibly be earth shattering!

Alam has, to date, received 107 patients suffering from different types of cancer including throat, breast, mouth and bone cancer and has successfully treated 104 patients. Two patients withdrew and one died of the ailment. Out of 104 patients, 38 chose homeopathic system without seeking treatment elsewhere, while 66 patients turned to Alam after becoming disillusioned with other systems of treatment.

Successfully cured 104 patients. Out of 107! That translates to a success rate of about 97%! That’s fantastic news. I honestly wish this would be true, since then my close relatives that are living with cancer could be cured.

Alam and Ahmed conducted the clinical studies at Dr Nadir Homeopathic Hospital, Super Highway, Hussaini Institute of Alternative Medicine, Old Hussaini Blood Blank opposite Nishtar Park, and Sindh Medical Centre, Hilal-e-Ahmer, Clifton, Karachi. Ahmed told The News that they have opened Al-Murtaza Homeopathic Hospital in Ancholi Society to treat the patients for research and humanitarian purpose.

What a load of horse shit! So they did their “clinical studies”, and went straight to open their own clinic to treat for “research and humanitarian purpose”? Smells like quackery to me! You know what they say, if they walk like quacks, talk like quacks, they most likely are quacks.

Alam claimed that cardiac disease is number one ailment in the world followed by cancer. “More specifically we can say that there is no complete cure of cancer in the allopathic system of medicine. However, we have the cure of cancer by herbal medicines through homeopathic system. These drugs act when they are administered to the patient in diluted form. They inhibit the cancerous cells and provide immunity against unwanted physiological process. The treatment can be administered regardless of age, intensity and period of disease,” said Alam while explaining the treatment process.

No douche bag you don’t. There is no cure for cancer and you do not have the cure “of cancer by herbal medicines through homeopathic system”. You have no cure, and I challenge you to prove me wrong. For the sake of humanity show a hard headed, naysayer, unbelieving skeptic wrong! You’d be doing me, my family and millions of other people a huge favor by proving that I am an arrogant skeptic. I hope you are able to do that.

In most cases the patients are unaware that they have been victim of cancer. It only comes to light when they (patients) grudgingly come to the doctors to get treatment. By that time it is already very late. “Herbal medicines work like magic,” Ahmed said. He hinted that in this clinical study, 106 diagnosed cases of cancers of different types were studied and in majority of the cases, the standard allopathic treatment that is surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy had failed; homoeopathic treatment was then compared to surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Ahmed let me share a secret with you: Herbal medicines are magic. Yep, because when the herb actually works it is made into a medicine, it does not remain herabl for too long. There is not alternative versus conventional medicine, there is only working medicine and non-working medicine period.

Conclusion

Dr Syed Mahboob Alam has not presented anything to substantiate his claims. He has not shown the homeopathy works at all, let alone cure cancer.  His so-called, clinical studies have not been presented, all this seems to be is a couple of quacks, who want in to the sCAM money train, who make fantastical claims to lure people into their newly opened clinic. I predict that the famed study of theirs will never see the light of day, it will never be published in any reputable medical/cancer journals, it will never be replicated, and that these two bozos will continue making their claims so long as people keep coming through their clinic’s front doors. We’ve seen this happen too many times before to hope it will play out any differently. But, as I said, there is nothing that will please me more than these guys showing my armchair skepticism to be wrong.

Your testimonials do not impress me. Show me the scientific data.

By scientific data u mean? I have seen people getting cured from cancer from that doctor. If u want to see then contact him.

    • Skepdude said, on June 15, 2009 at 3:18 PM

I mean double blind, randomized, controlled studies showing that his methods work. You’re still pointing to testimonials. I can accept that some people may have gotten better. Ever heard of natural remission?

      • Qaarem said, on June 22, 2009 at 8:15 PM

There is no such thing as natural remission, it’s a convienent scapegoat whenever the medical establishment feels Alternative Medicine might actually be working. How many people have natural remission under going no treatment? Zero. Natural remission would entail no treatment, and Conventional Medicine will tell you that people risk dying or the cancer spreading if they arent given Radio, Chemo therpay or opt for surgery. Either one of these treatments does not cause ‘natural remission’ It’s convienent then, that when alternative medicine shows results, ‘natural remission’, ‘placebo effect’ all come into play. Try not to say foolish things in an attempt to act smart please.

“I mean double blind, randomized, controlled studies showing that his methods work”

Herbal Medicine has been around for centuries, it’s a fallacy to assume that only modern medicine can save us, or not from cancer. God created everything, including disease, and a cure. Do you honestly think, people just dropped dead from disease 100 years ago, because the current conventional medical establishment didn’t exist with its money making surgeries, chemo and radio therapies?

Here’s a challenge. You have relatives who are cancer stricken? Give me five such patients. I’ll show you results, God willing. If those results aren’t enough to convince you, nothing will, and therefore, end of story.

I wont even use Homoeopathy, just every day foods found in nature. Fair enough?

        • Skepdude said, on June 22, 2009 at 10:20 PM

If 5 of my relatives had cancer I wouldn’t even waste time dignifying your ridiculous charges with an answer. I have one relative with cancer and his life is too precious to leave to the hands of crooks.

Secondly you don’t even know the meaning of the word fallacy as your second paragraph clearly demonstrates; you are employing the fallacy from antiquity yourself. Name the fallacy I am committing…if you can!. And yes people just dropped dead 100 years ago while your God sat around and watched.

Actually your 5 patient challenge is one of the worst kinds of evidence you can provide. I told you what will change my mind. Let me repeat:

Double blind, randomized, controlled studies. Get to linking.

I find it amusing that people like yourself Skepdude, would rather start pointing fingers, ask for definitive proof, rather than being open minded and giving it a try. You do realise what the conventional system for medicine says, dont you? If it don’t help, it wont harm either. Keeping that in mind, maybe you should pay Dr Mahboob Alam a visit with one of your ‘cancer stricken’ relatives and give it a shot while continuing the conventional treatment on the side. Dr. Mahboob Alam is no quack, he’s been the Assistant Director at Jinnah Medical Post Graduate Hospital in Karachi, and has studied Homoeopathy as well, so pretty much has both Conventional and Alternative Medicine experience under his belt.

Sitting on the web and shooting off your mouth on wordpress behind someones back, especially where it’s not first hand experience. All I can say is, how naive.

Kindly go pay a visit to Dr. Nadirs Homoeopathic Hospital, take a look their records, ask around Karachi to see what sort of reputation the Hospital has. tha, my friend, will help a lot of people.

    Regards

BS, there goes the close minded attack. I’ve heard it all before so spare yourself some keystrokes.

If your doctor had such good a record, he wouldn’t need me to go over there and be convinced he’d have already convinced the medical community.

All good studies show homeopathy is useless. It’s been tested and tested over an over. Furthermore, it relies on stupid premises and magical thinking. It seems to me it’s up to you folks to prove yourself. Stop hiding behind your “open your mind” ridiculous nonsense and get to doing some science.

You do know what that is no?

      • Qaarem said, on June 26, 2009 at 8:45 AM

None so blind, as those who will not see :)

It’s regarded to even try with you. No one has to prove anything to you, or the medical community. Should you get cancer tommorow, in all likelihood, you’ll be given a timeframe by the so called scientific medical community, put through extensive radio/chemo therapy, and with all thier double blind studies, and fancy synthetic drugs, in the end will drop dead.

The problem is, skeptics like you, take vrery little time to change thier views when they are are threatened with impending death. It’s almost funny what it takes to change your views.

So I guess we can all wait till you discover you have cancer, and see if you stick to your ’show me your double blind studies, and a 100 years ago people dropped dead while your God watched’

Right then. go ahead and sit here and rant and rave, about, nothing really. You have too much time on your hands.

Oh btw, the founder and pioneers of homoepathy were all conventional doctors who after years of seeing the medicine they were taught, helped nothing, decided to look for something that would. they would know double blind studies better than you and I. the founder of homoeopathy was a well celebrated physician of his time whose teachings propagated ‘hygiene’ and well before it was put into place by the medical establishment. He was also the first man to lay down the foundations for ‘Biochemistry’

Do read up on his biography, Samuel Hahnemann.

Ranting and raving about how there are no double blind studies and what not. Are you even a medical/science student? I very much doubt it. Sitting on the web, reading articles, then giving your opinions, haha. Get a life.

there’s a saying ‘Prove all things’ and guess who said it? the founder of Homoeopathy. So please, rather than telling them to prove themselves, why dont you be the better quack, since I can’t call you a man, your intellect only stretches so far, and prove them wrong eh?

        • Skepdude said, on June 26, 2009 at 3:47 PM

Right, when you can’t make an intelligent argument, start with the insults and ad hominems. It’s pathetic!

  5. Qaarem said, on June 26, 2009 at 8:48 AM

Oh I’m sorry, I meant RETARDED, the word too seems to shy away from being associated with you. Yes double blind studies is the way, which have managed to prove what till now? Rats and monkeys react to certain synthetic drugs in the lab, and oh yes, humans are supposedly going to react in a similiar fashion.

I think if you had a little more common sense, you’d think before you opened your mouth, rather than spread the message of the Pharmacuetical Giants you so blindly worship. You said crook? I said it was a free treatment. Mentally you are blind, though I did give you the benefit of the doubt when I assumed you could read atleast.

    • Skepdude said, on June 26, 2009 at 3:53 PM

You are correct, the word retarded cannot be associated with me.

By the way, as part of my generous public education of the uneducated, double blind studies are not conducted on monkeys and rats, but on people. Is your knowledge really that limited or did you make that blunder on purpose?

PS: Use Firefox’s Find Feature and search for free and you will see that not only did you not say “free treatment” up until now, but you didn’t even use the word “free” up until now, not even once. You did use the word “treatment” a few time though.

Do you even know what you are saying?

  6. Qaarem said, on June 26, 2009 at 8:52 AM

And none of the ‘all good studies’ were done by you. These very ‘good studies’ intially propogated DDT was safe, years later they declare it carcinogenic. These ‘all good studies’ have brought alot of drugs to the shelves, and later off them. Thats how ‘good’ these studies are. And, thats how ‘good’ you are too, for just beleieving how ‘good’ these studies are and how much of a bar they are to measure every other treatment.

Grow up dude, theres no point in even responding to you anymore. when you have nothing better to do, you open up a skeptics blog. Anyone can be a skeptic, takes smarter people to be open minded.

    • Skepdude said, on June 26, 2009 at 3:56 PM

Actually anyone cannot be a skeptic, YOU are not qualified. Ability to think is required, sorry, best luck next time.

You are not open minded. Your brain has fallen of your skull a long time ago, and you’re clearly still searching for it. I feel sorry for you! I hope you get better soon.

poor skepdude… No one has obviously told him about Beauocrarcy…..what would the pharmaceuticals do, if we found natural cures ??!!! Its all big business & they’ve really sucked you in!!!

No actually you forgot to accuse me of being in their payroll, but I guess it is coming down the line.
