More crapy science from Fringe

Posted in Uncategorized by Skepdude on November 2, 2008

I have made my feelings about the FOX show Fringe known already. And, as I previously said I like me some science fiction, so I do watch it for entertainment. Episode 3 rubbed me the wrong way. Why? Because of the following:

-Occam’s Razor! All other things being equal, the simple solution is the best

-And what is that?

-The man is phychic! Theoretically it is quite possible.

**Sigh**

Amnesty: Rape girl, 13, killed for adultery

Posted in News by Skepdude on November 2, 2008

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — A 13-year-old girl who said she had been raped was stoned to death in Somalia after being accused of adultery by Islamic militants, a human rights group said.

Dozens of men stoned Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow to death Oct. 27 in a stadium packed with 1,000 spectators in the southern port city of Kismayo, Amnesty International and Somali media reported, citing witnesses. The Islamic militia in charge of Kismayo had accused her of adultery after she reported that three men had raped her, the rights group said.

Initial local media reports said Duhulow was 23, but her father told Amnesty International she was 13. Some of the Somali journalists who first reported the killing later told Amnesty International that they had reported she was 23 based upon her physical appearance.

Barack Obama.

Thank goodness I am not a 501 c(3) as such I can express an opinion when it comes to politics. Barack Obama has potential. He is inspirational, he’s polished, and he talks the right talk. The question that remains to be seen is: Will he walk the walk? I sure hope he will. He has the chance to be great or a great delusion. I seriously hope that he’ll be the former. On Tuesday, November 4th 2008 I suggest you vote for Obama. Else you’ll be excommunicated from Skepfeeds!

Nonsense quote of the day

Once again, a bit of biblical history has been matched up with an archaeological finding.

A team led by archaeologists from the United States and Jordan has made a discovery of perhaps biblical proportions at the Ruins of Copper (Arabic “Khirbat en-Nahas”), a region south of the Dead Sea now lying in Jordan.

The site has been known for decades to have hosted metalworking dating back some seven centuries BC. But the current team, led by Thomas Levy of the University of California–San Diego and Mohammad Najjar of Jordan’s Friends of Archaeology, unearthed materials such as seeds and sticks that are claimed to be from the 10th century BC. That was the time of King Solomon, whom the Bible notes was “greater in riches . . . than all the other kings of the earth” (1 Kings 10:23) and who had unprecedented access to natural resources, presumably including copper, but also many others from sources near and far.

I guess god’s grace knows no bounds. He gave Solomon who was “greater in riches…than all other kings of the earth” seeds and sticks. SEEDS AND STICKS! Now that deserves the term theistarded for real!

Was it Heaven? Or Hell?

I ran accross this short story by Mark Twain who famously said “Religion is believing in what you know aint so” (I think). He was a freethinker, that’s the point I was trying to make. Nevertheless, this story I liked a lot, but I couldn’t quite figure out the ending. Whas it Heaven? Or Hell? I was never good with literature and stuff. Anyone has an opinion on this?
