Another reason to sleep in on Sunday

Posted in Skepdude by Skepdude on September 11, 2009

Clergy hits on 1 out of every 33 women that attend worship services. Now most people will glaze over it, move on to the celebrity scandal page and never remember it. Now replace it by this sentence “1 out of every 33 college students has been the target of sexual advances by a faculty member” and it doesn’t sound so innocent anymore does it.  Another great reason to sleep in on Sunday me-thinks! Ah, but I am being disrespectful to religion or some shit like that right?

I came from a really small town. Small towns are vicious places. My mother was the target of rumours in this small town, partly because she was so paranoid. You know the saying, “just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you.”

Our old Catholic priest retired. Or possibly went to that big church in the sky. He left, for some reason. He was replaced by a much younger (and incidentally nice-looking) priest. Very sweet man. The community decided to hate him.

So they started a rumour that he was having an affair with my mother. She was terribly upset by this. My response when she told me just made her mad:

“Don’t be ridiculous. He’s as camp as a row of tents. Would never be interested in you unless you learned to grow a beard.

“And besides, he’s the best looking man in the village and fifteen years younger then you with it. Personally, if I were you I’d be thrilled.”
