Thank Xenu I’m not in the UK

Posted in Evolved and Rational by Skepdude on March 9, 2009

Scientology is a dangerous cult.

Now, saying this in the UK could result in an IRL V&:

The Crown Prosecution Service has decided that anyone who attacks Scientology can be prosecuted under faith hate laws. The move will for the first time provide the controversial Church of Scientology – described by some as a cult – the same protection as other mainstream religions.

Apparently the sensibilities of a dangerous cult (with the big $$$) is more important than freedom of speech. Big surprise there.

It means that any alleged offenders who ‘abuse’ or ‘threaten’ the Church of Scientology can be charged under the Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006.
It is understood the decision was made this month after the Police Diversity Directorate asked the CPS to clarify its position on the organisation.

It follows the arrest last summer of a 15-year-old boy for calling Scientology a ‘dangerous cult’ during a demonstration outside the Church’s £23million headquarters in London.

I don’t like protestfags, but I would never want them arrested for protesting against a dangerous cult. Freedom of speech is a fucking human right, and it speaks volumes for the lunacy and misguided political correctness of a society when criticism of a mere belief is made illegal.

What is so different about faith/religion/adacadabra that makes it so different from anything else that is open to criticism? How have people been made to unquestioningly accept that religious faith should be immune to criticism is open to debate, but if this trend is left unchecked, we are headed into dangerous waters.

Ian Harris, founder of the Cult Information Centre, said last night: ‘Scientology has always wanted to be recognised as a religion but it doesn’t even have a God. This decision is news to me and it is frankly quite upsetting and shocking.

No, stupid! The reason the cult of $cientology should not be offered the benefits of religion is not because they don’t have a god (by certain definitions, Xenu could be considered a god, but let’s not get into semantics here). The real reason should be because they are – as over 9000 people have pointed out – a dangerous cult. They actively endanger their own members. They separate families, destroy lives, abandon their sheep when they have sucked every drop of $$$ they can out of them, and the worst thing is that they have been complicit in the deaths of their own followers. They should be classified as a criminal organization, but as in various other cases, the $$$ and blatant corruption makes a huge difference.

Graeme Wilson, public affairs director for The Church of Scientology in the UK, said last night: ‘Scientology is the chosen religion of millions of people around the world, a point which has been recognised by numerous governmental bodies.’

Lying about your numbers again? Awww…just what I expected from a Scilon.

Yes, Scilons have every right to believe in Xenu and thetans as Christards have to believe in their zombie god. However, when a so-called ‘religion’ actively endangers (and kills) its own followers, this does not call for legitimization. It calls for a fucking investigation

Different lunacy, same asshattery

Ultra-Orthodox Jews are stoning buses because “BAWWWW men and women should be separate because men cannot keep their penises in their pants BAWWWW!”

In the view of some ultra-Orthodox Jews, segregated seating, with women entering separately through the rear door and sitting at the back, is vital to uphold their stringent traditions stipulating modesty and prohibiting physical contact with members of the opposite sex.

Reminded of something, folks?

Menachem Kenig, head of a committee pressing for segregated buses, says Israel’s leading bus company, Egged, is in effect forcing religious people to sin. “The one place where men and women are forced to be together is on the bus,” he says. “People are crowded in, men and women push up against each other. There are sudden stops and sharp turns and men fall on the women. This really angers us, it is a violation of the concept of modesty that is at the basis of the ultra-orthodox community.”

Excuse me while I stop laugHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Truly epic lulz, theistards. If the bus drivers are really driving so fast that people are falling on each other in the bus, men and women sitting together would be the least of your concerns.

I think somebody just needs to get laid.

But Laura Wharton, a secularist member of the Jerusalem city council, says the attempt to force a new segregated bus line is “outrageous and extremist”, adding: “It is humiliating to be sent to the back of the bus.”

No shit, Sherlock. Maybe you should spend more time shouting down your Orthodox coreligionists and fighting over the correct interpretation of your holy book? Just saying.

A Mea Shearim store-owner said: “According to the Jewish religion, it is forbidden to damage property. These people are causing shame to the ultra-Orthodox community, which is made up of very delicate people. It is true that Egged does not give good service to the ultra-Orthodox but you don’t solve this through ugly violence.”

Translation: They are not true Jews! They are making us look bad HURR DURR! I am a true Jew and I know what god wants! BAWWWWWW!

The theistards involved may be different, but the sort of lunacy we have come to expect from the fundies often stays the same. It is made of BAWWWWW and fail for them, and epic lulz for our side.

Another family destroyed by religion

Posted in Evolved and Rational by Skepdude on December 18, 2008

If you are familiar at all with the usual arguments of religious kooks, you would be well versed with the way they BAWWWWW about how religion brings families together, helps people be moral, yada yada yada.

This article shows another side of religion that the theistards don’t like to mention.

tl:dr: A Hindu priest rapes a woman, is arrested, and confessed to the crime. The woman’s son refuses to believe that the priest did it (because men of god don’t do bad things ever, amirite?), and now refuses to visit his mother in hospital.

This is utterly despicable, not only on the part of the so-called holy man who used his position to commit monstrous crimes; but also on the part of people who are so deluded religious leaders that they would rather be split from their families than believe that a man of god could have done something wrong.

When religion is concerned, it seems that everything suddenly becomes AWWRIGHT. Children dying because their parents refuse medical care – it’s AWWRIGHT! Families split because of religion – it’s AWWRIGHT! Science education fucked up because of religion – it’s AWWRIGHT!

[appeaser-speak]What makes it AWWRIGHT, you ask? Why, because it is religion, of course! Religion should not be criticized because it is RELIGION, dammit, and we need to show some respect here. Respect religion because it is religion! Don’t you see the logic here?[/appeaser speak]

See the problem with that approach, folks? When situations such as the above happen, most appeasers are quick to denounce the practice as ‘extremism’ and the like, without realizing that their actions then make them exactly like the so-called ‘militant atheists’ they abhor…because, we all know that speaking out against religion makes us militants.

Militants. Serious business.

Fundie Claim #18: Stalin, Stalin, Stalin!

Posted in Evolved and Rational, Uncategorized by Skepdude on November 3, 2008

Fundie: “And so, if you’re gonna criticiz— you know, religious people for the Inquisition, then you need to praise them for the civil rights movement,” he said. You can’t sort of have it both ways. And similarly, if you’re going to praise atheists for these things, you need to criticize theStalinists. I mean, some of the most murderous regimes that we’ve had in the 20th century were atheistic regimes.”
What this theistard refuses to acknowledge is that he is conveniently comparing apples and oranges. As I have mentioned before, I do not deny that some atheists do bad things, as some Christians do. The difference is, for example, in the case of the Inquisition, murders and torture were condoned in the name of their religion and their imaginary god. Even if Stalin was indeed a devout atheist, he did not commit his tyranny in the name of religion or because he claimed to defend reason. Stalin was simply a megalomaniac and a political opportunist. When was the last time you heard a terrorist act being done in the name of atheism or science or reason? When was the last tine a terrorist act was done in the name of a religion’s imaginary god?

Stalin was not motivated by atheism; if he was motivated by an “ism”, it was Communism. While communism is an ostensibly atheistic political philosophy, atheism is not inherently communistic. To restated that more clearly: communists are supposed to be atheists, but atheists do not have to be communists – no matter what your local fundie tells you. The intent of the communist revolution was to eliminate capitalism, not religion.

An atheist doesn’t need to be a communist, but he/she doesn’t need neither to be a capitalist, an anarchist, a feudalist, or anything else. In fact, an atheist doesn’t also need to be a humanist. There are atheists that see humanism as a kind of ‘speciesism’ against other biological organisms, and thus reject it. There are also anti-humanist atheists that do not think that every human being deserves respect simply for being human.

There are all kinds of atheists, politically, socially, economically, etc. Get it, theistard?

Moving on…

Although Stalin was an atheist, he was praised as a god in the Soviet Union and in all the official Communist Parties in the world.

An example:

“O great Stalin, O leader of the peoples,
Thou who broughtest man to birth.
Thou who fructifiest the earth.
Thou who restorest the centuries,
Thou who makest bloom the spring,
Thou who makest vibrate the musical cords.
Thou, splendour of my spring,
O Thou, Sun reflected by millions of hearts …”
(Pravda, August 28, 1936.)

And another one:

“I would have compared him to a white mountain – but the mountain has a summit.
I would have compared him to the depths of the sea – but the sea has a bottom.
I would have compared him to the shining moon – but the moon shines at midnight, not at noon.
I would have compared him to the brilliant sun – but the sun radiates at noon, not at midnight.”
(Znamya, Soviet Authors’ Union Monthly, October 1946.)

Perhaps Stalin is a self-theist?

Also, the USSR didn’t reject religious doctrines out of some ‘rational analysis’, but because Marxist-Leninist doctrines called for it. It’s good to remember that unquestioned adherence to those doctrines drove them to reject real science (especially genetics) because, according to them, it contradicted orthodoxy and was therefore false. Ring a bell, theistards?

The problem here isn’t Stalin and his supposed atheism. It is about unquestioning obedience to dogma, whatever that particular dogma may be. That is why religion is so dangerous, and this why theistards need to wake the fuck up.

Also, theistards: You have just lost the game argument. Lulz on you!

IDiocy: Can it get more pathetic than this?

Posted in Evolved and Rational by Skepdude on October 22, 2008

Every once in a while you come across something so theistarded and sad that you almost think that it is all a big parody, except for the fact that it is 100% real. Next, you think that humanity is more fucked-up than you ever imagined, and you are even more horrified when you realize that a large segment of the population actually buys into that particular brand of bullshit.

Case in point: The Expelled DVD.

Okay, the fact that Expelled is a theistarded pile of dishonest dung is old news. The BAWWWWing and drama by the IDiots after getting epically pwned over 9000 times is also old news. Nothing could make the Expelled FAILshow even more of a failure, right?

Wrong, of course. When it comes to the cretinous, IDiotic, lying, theistarded morons, nothing is too stupid or too unbelievable. Are you ready for the latest cringe-worthy truckload of FAIL from the IDiots? Get ready for it now….

The person who wrote the promotional blurb for the cover of the Expelled DVD is Ben Stein himself.

“I love this film!” –Ben Stein

Let that sink in for a bit, folks.

Ben Stein wrote the cover blurb for his own movie. Ben Stein wrote the cover blurb for his own movie. Ben Stein wrote the cover blurb for his own movie. Ben Stein wrote the cover blurb for his own movie. Ben Stein wrote the cover blurb for his own movie.

Can it get any more pathetic than that?

It seems like good old Stein couldn’t even get some theistarded church leader to promote his shitty crocumentary, and he had to resort to the usual Idiotic self-praise, just like that other decrepit fool, William Dembski, who wrote positive reviews of his own book at Amazon under different names.

Those IDiots are like a train wreck that has greatly surpassed the point of providing lulz, but somehow we can’t seem to stop watching and cringing.

The failure! The irony! The Idiocy! The stupidity! IT BURNS!!

Fundie Claim #17: No religion, no meaning!

Posted in Evolved and Rational by Skepdude on October 14, 2008

Fundie: Without religion, life would be meaningless and without purpose! We need god to have a purpose in life! What is the meaning of life in the atheist worldview? There is none, BAWWWWW! The negation of the notion of an afterlife, souls, spirits and zomgwtfgod causes one’s life to be pointless. Therefore, we need religion!

Listen up, theistards: If you believe that your life is pointless without a belief in an imaginary sky-daddy that listens to your every prayer, you need to grow the fuck up. Yes, leaving religion is not an easy task, but you seriously need to get a fucking grip. There is so much out there in the world that makes basing your life on a fucking holy book written by mortal men thousands of years ago seem as stupid as believing in Xenu and thetans. Wishing for something to be true does not make it true, so your argument is simply hot air and BAWWWWW.

The obsession with ‘purpose’ and ‘meaning’ stems from the human inability and/or refusal to consider that this life is all there is, and that this is it. Many people simply cannot face the fact that after they cease breathing, it’s kthxbai over. Humans are egotistical creatures, as seen in religions that claim that man is the center of the universe, and notice that such religions tend to resist any progress that casts doubt on this idea (Galileo, anyone?). Humans are often femotionally needy and we can’t comprehend the fact that our lifespan is fleeting, temporal…and then, nothing. We are just going to end up in the ground being worm food no matter what, and this fact often makes people go BAWWWWW.

There seems to be an increasing tendency among atheists to downplay this aspect of rationalism when dealing with religious nuts, perhaps in order to avoid playing into their hands. In my opinion, fuck this shit. We need to outgrow our delusions of ‘meaning’ and ‘purpose’, pointing out that the only meaning and purpose to life is what we make out of it. The universe doesn’t care, there are no gods who fucking care, there are no angels looking out for us – nobody cares and will care unless we humans take it into our hands and start caring.

We need to get over our obsession with purpose, and I see no reason to hide the fact that we live in a purposeless world just to make people feel better about themselves. We need to make this fact known so that people would take responsibility for their own lives instead of sitting around and whining about how god will look after them or that their sorry lives are a part of god’s plan.

If we don’t wake the fuck up and be responsible for our own lives without deluding ourselves about a higher power looking after us, humanity is headed on a path to self-destruction; and no amount of wailing about ‘meaning’ or ‘purpose’ is going to change it.

Grow the fuck up, humans.

Child abuse? It’s AWWRIGHT…

Posted in Evolved and Rational by Skepdude on October 12, 2008

..if done in the name of religion, apparently.

The Christards sure get their asses kicked all the time on this blog for being a bunch of theistarded and deluded whackaloons. What a lot of people have not realized is that Hinduism and Buddhism can cause as much child abuse and theistardation as the Abrahamic religions. If you are one of the people who think that Eastern religions are AWWRIGHT and that they are not as harmful as the Christarded variety, think again.

Hindu and Buddhist priests chanted sacred hymns and cascaded flowers and grains of rice over a 3-year-old girl who was appointed a living goddess in Nepal on Tuesday. She will be worshipped by Hindus and Buddhists as an incarnation of the powerfulHindu deity Taleju.

Living goddess, eh? As ridiculous and fucktarded as this notion may seem, maybe some of you are still thinking that it is AWWRIGHT. Read on:

The judges read the candidates’ horoscopes and check each one for physical imperfections. The living goddess must have perfect hair, eyes, teeth and skin with no scars, and should not be afraid of the dark.

Ah, I see…

1. Have the correct horoscope.
2. Look ‘pretty’. (Are the judges pedos horny old men, by any chance?)
4. ???
5. PROFIT!!!

As a final test, the living goddess must spend a night alone in a room among the heads of ritually slaughtered goats and buffaloes without showing fear.

Yeah, a three year old child should be kept alone in a room for a whole fucking night with dismembered animal heads just so that some brainwashed, idiotic adults can have their idiotic religious beliefs. Where religion is concerned, a three year old child who does not know what the fuck is going on should be expected to not show fear when alone in the dark surrounded with smelly rotting animal heads – while putting a child through that shit in any other circumstance would produce outrage and cries of ‘child abuse’. Religion is the free pass that enables shit that would normally not fly otherwise seem AWWRIGHT, it enables the idiots who indulge in such shit to scream ‘persecution, BAWWWWW’ when they are criticized by the sensible few, and it enables the appeasers to support this rot in the name of not offending anyone.

[appeaser-speak] Remember, kids: When it comes to religion, it’s AWWRIGHT! Thou shall not question nor criticize, because we’re talking about religion here. We need to respect their beliefs no matter how fucktarded they seem because we don’t want to piss them off! Religion is serious business! [/end appeaser-speak]

Having passed all the tests, the child will stay in almost complete isolation at the temple, and will be allowed to return to her family only at the onset of menstruation when a new goddess will be named to replace her.

Folks, can’t you see how crazy this is? Apparently taking a child away from her parents for the sake of an ancient, outdated, cruel superstition is AWWRIGHT because it is oh-so-holy and people shouldn’t question it. It is AWWRIGHT because religion is involved. This fucking pedophilic worship of a child as a ‘goddess’ is totally AWWRIGHT because the holy men say so! It’s AWWRIGHT, folks! Keep convincing yourselves that it is AWWRIGHT, and it will be.

You must be wondering what the parents are saying about having their child taken away from them to live in fucking isolation. You must be assuming that the parents are outraged at this travesty, right?

Think again. When it comes to religion, even the parents think that it is AWWRIGHT:

“I feel a bit sad, but since my child has become a living goddess I feel proud,” said her father Pratap Man Shakya.

bit sad?! Proud that your own child has been taken away from you to live in almost complete isolation? What the flying fuck?

See the complete theistarded lunacy of religion, folks? Religion normalizes what would rightly be seen as an outrage in normal circumstances; it encourages apathy within the community about basic moral stances on what is right and wrong; and it causes outsiders who may be uncomfortable with what is going on to shut up just because they prefer not to offend the religious morons. See how dangerous an unquestioning belief in something can get? See how far-reaching the consequences can be?

Critics say the tradition violates both international and Nepalese laws on child rights. The girls often struggle to readjust to normal lives after they return home.

Nepalese folklore holds that men who marry a former kumari will die young, and so many girls remain unmarried and face a life of hardship.

Translation: Milk the child for what it’s worth in your fucktarded religion, and after all has been said and done, ruin the child’s life for what it’s worth in your fucktarded religion! It’s AWWRIGHT because the dirty old holy men say so!

I rest my case.

Whoops – we’re talking about religion here. Remember: It’s AWWRIGHT!!

Science > Religion

Posted in Evolved and Rational by Skepdude on October 9, 2008

As much as theistards may hope for a miracle, praying for a limb will not cause the limb to magically miraculously regrow. Thankfully, there is this thing called science that actually does help people:

Karl Merk, a German dairy farmer whose arms had been amputated after an accident, said he felt like a “whole man” again as he spoke for the first time since the operation in July.

“The feeling is indescribable. Every day I gain more mobility,” said Mr Merk as he showed off the arms, which are being supported by a special “corset” while the healing continues.

Six years ago Mr Merk lost his arms in a farm maize threshing machine. Found by a colleague as he lay bleeding to death, he screamed: “Kill me, kill me!” But the man saved his life instead.

Why, Christards? Why?

Posted in Evolved and Rational by Skepdude on September 30, 2008

Fundie Christarded morons can never agree on what supposedly happens to people who never knew about the ‘fact’ that they had to worship some zombie Jewish carpenter or burn in hell for eternity before they died. Some are honest enough to say that they believe that their god actually roasts those people in hell anyway; while other Christians try to fudge and claim that god forgives people that have not heard of the zombie cult leader. A Christian that I was talking to claimed that god forgives those who have not heard the ‘good news’, and that Christians should go around spreading the ‘good news’ so that more people would be ‘saved’ by knowing and ‘accepting Jesus’.

This brings me to the question: Why, Christards?

If Christians think that people who don’t know about Jesus go to heaven anyway, why do they bother evangelizing? Why spend all that time and money to save someone when someone is considered ‘saved’ already by not knowing about Jesus? If you are truly interested in saving someone from hell, why run the risk of telling someone about your cult and have them reject it, only to burn in hell later? Wouldn’t it be simple common sense to shut the fuck up about your zombie god so that more people would be ignorant of your great holy truth and thus nicely go to heaven instead of burning forever and ever? (Wait…Christianity…common sense?! Who was I kidding?)

Seriously, this doesn’t make any fucking sense. It is exactly what we mean when we say ‘OH MY GOD WHAT IS THIS I DON’T EVEN….’. It is stupid, fucktarded, illogical, insane, and simply theistarded. Only a theistard could believe in this shit without noticing the glaring problem with the crapped-up piece of dumbfuck theology.

If you instead choose the hardcore fundie way and say that everyone who did not hear about Jesus automatically goes to hell, why? How is it their fault that they were born into the circumstances that did not allow them to hear about Jesus? How about some kid who died by being blown to pieces in some distant war-torn country without being ‘saved’ by the zombie carpenter? Hellfire for eternity? Wouldn’t god know that those people would not have had a chance to be ‘saved’ before throwing them into hell? Did god plan that out on purpose for some sick reason – like making sure that Christards can nicely whine and BAWWWWW about how people should donate to their cultish institution in order to spread the ‘good word’? Did god simply do all this for his own sadistic pleasure? If so, what type of god are you worshipping? How could you claim that non-Christards are morally deficient with any credibility after admitting that your worship a god like that?

What the flying fuck?

Intelligent Christians who would like to provide us evil godless hell-bound heathens with a coherent answer are welcome to do so in the comments. If you sound like yet another typical theistarded moron, don’t get all butthurt when people have lulz at your expense. You fully deserve the mockery for believing in such stupid shit…unless you can intelligently defend your views, of course.

Therefore, GOGOGO! Comment away.

Fundie Claim #16: Persecution, BAWWW!

Posted in Evolved and Rational, Uncategorized by Skepdude on September 8, 2008

Fundie (actual quote): The act of atheism in defying Christianity proves that it recognizes Christianity as having a true God. There are thousands of religions, cultures, occult, and spiritual practices in this world that are doubtful to be true at all. Still, atheism goes against the presence of God, especially God in Christianity, way more strongly compare to its refutation against other religions in this world? Why is that so? Given an example of a second best student in class who only goes against the best student in class because he only recognizes the ability of the best student, and not the rest of the class, a similar pattern can be observed between Christianity and atheism. However, Christianity has already won through the blood of Jesus on the cross.

This statement makes no sense at all. Atheism is merely a lack of a belief in god/gods, and has nothing to do with specifically going against the Christian religion. Atheists are not defying Christianity or the Christian god, as you can’t defy something that you don’t believe exists in the first place. If someone does not believe in goblins, does that mean that the person is defying Goblinism? Since Christians do not believe in Shiva, does that mean that Christianity is defying Hinduism, thus recognizing Hinduism as the true religion?

Christians, what makes you think that Christianity is the true religion among the thousands of other religions known or once known to mankind? Are you really sure that your particular god is the one true god, and how do you know for a fact? Would you have been a fundie Christian if you were born in rural Afghanistan?

“When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.” —Stephen Roberts

The assertion that atheists are all out to attack Christianity certainly fuels the pathetic Christian martyr complex, but rest assured that atheists are not going to call for Christians to be burnt at the stake anytime soon. We leave those sort of things to the butthurt theistards who resort to violence because they simply cannot rationally defend their faith.

Now, a Christian might wonder why the atheism-related posts on my blog are mostly (not all) centered around Christianity. The answer has nothing to do with going against the presence of the Christarded imaginary god, but simply due to the fact that Christianity is the religion that I am most familiar with and the one that I tend to come across in everyday life. I do not post about how Zeus does not exist because Zeus-believers are not the ones making shrill attacks on secular values or trying to destroy science and take us all back to the Dark Ages. If you want some examples of atheist resources that dismantle the arguments of other religions, Google has been invented. Use it.

Notice the interesting thing here: The Christard explicitly mentions atheism as a threat to Christianity, and not any other religions or occult practices. Again, the Christian argument can be flipped on its’ head to show the muddled contradictions that is often pervasive in fundie Christian reasoning.

As much as it may hurt Christian egos, Christianity is not the only or final threat to rationalism and reason. Christianity is not the only delusional belief system in the world. Christians, there is no need to get on your high horse and feed your persecution complex.

Also, exactly how has Christianity already ‘won’ through the blood of Jesus? If Christianity has already won, why was the fundie post needed in the first place? Why bother explaining why you picked Christianity over atheism if Christianity has already won, theistarded moron? Why even bother making a point?

tl;dr: The fundie argument is an EPIC FAILure.
